Sustainability at BRITA Australia: A Core Value in Action
At BRITA Australia, sustainability isn’t just part of our strategy—it’s embedded in who we are. Our new office is a reflection of our identity and desire to adopt sustainable practices which benefit both the environment, our people and the wider community.
Our recent office move presented a valuable opportunity to put our environmental values into practice, and we’re proud to share the tangible steps we took to reduce our impact, support our community, and prioritise responsible resource use.

Giving Back to the Community
As part of the relocation, we donated nine boxes of unused stationery to the Stationery Reuse Centre by UNSW ARC—a student-led initiative at the University of New South Wales. The program provides free stationery to students, promoting waste reduction and community support with a simple mission: take what you need, give what you can. Every item reused helps divert waste from landfill and supports education sustainably.

E-Waste Recycling for a Greener Tomorrow
We also responsibly recycled 220kg of electronic waste—including outdated laptops, printers, and keyboards — preventing it from ending up in landfill. This effort led to a carbon offset of 317kg of CO₂, a measurable contribution toward reducing our environmental footprint and promoting responsible e-waste disposal.

Sustainable Disposal of Larger Equipment
For larger items such as water dispensers, fridges, and dishwashers, we collaborated with Ridly, a commercial waste removal service known for its eco-conscious practices. Ridly ensures every job is carbon neutral by planting trees for every pickup, reinforcing our ongoing commitment to climate action.

A Workplace Designed for Sustainability
Our new office building exemplifies our sustainability goals in its design and daily operations. It proudly holds the following NABERS (National Australian Built Environment Rating System) ratings:
- 5 stars for Indoor Environment Quality – promoting a healthy, comfortable workplace.
- 4.5 stars for Energy – reflecting high efficiency and reduced carbon emissions.
- 4.5 stars for Water – highlighting responsible and efficient water use.

Key sustainable features include:
- Sensor-activated lighting to reduce energy consumption in key areas.
- Rooftop solar harvesting system supporting hot water needs.
- Sustainably sourced consumables in all restrooms.
- Waterless urinals to conserve water.
- Variable speed drives on pumps and motors to optimise energy use.
- Façade shading panels that reduce solar load and the need for artificial cooling.
