What is River Recovery
Greening Australia is working with regional Natural Resource Management (NRM) organisation. River Recovery is a new, multi-faceted program that is working to ensure regional communities have access to the best knowledge and innovations in river restoration, protection and management. River Recovery is a unique approach to a critical natural resource management issue. It binds together multiple program elements, seeks to test and refine research and innovation, actively involves key scientific, business, community and government partners and has a strong focus on co-investment to build a greater pool of resources for wide-scale riparian restoration. It will also deliver a suite of training products that will help to build the capacity of communities to address river health issues. The first phase of River Recovery will focus on priority river reaches that we will identify in conjunction with our research partners, including Land & Water Australia, the Murray-Darling Basin Commission, the CRC for Fresh Water Ecology and CSIRO. Initial funding of $2.9 million over three years has been provided from the Natural Heritage Trust. However, to achieve the goals of River Recovery, The task of repairing Australia’s landscapes is massive. The support of corporate sponsors will be invaluable in meeting this challenge.
