Water helps your weight loss efforts

Water contains no kilojoules/calories, fat or carbohydrate and is low in sodium.  It's the ideal drink for your body’s health with a whole host of benefits, many of which support your weight loss efforts.  Just by swapping from soft drink, cordial or juice to water is enough to make a difference to many people’s total kilojoule intake.

Water doesn’t spoil the flavour of whatever food you’re eating and is inexpensive. If you use your BRITA water filter, you’ll find drinking water pleasant and easy without the chlorine and contaminants that impair tap water.

Drinking plenty of water has long been recommended if you’re trying to lose weight. And there’s good research to back this up.

A glass of BRITA filtered water before a meal distends your stomach, reduces sensations of hunger and leaves you feeling fuller, all desirable feelings when you’re on a diet. It’s a simple, inexpensive and effective weight control strategy, which is why you’ll see it mentioned so often on weight loss programs.

Many weight loss counselors report that feelings of thirst and hunger can be confused by the brain, so it pays to start a meal well hydrated.

Water helps your kidneys operate efficiently.  The kidneys have the job of removing wastes like uric acid, urea and lactic acid - all of which dissolve in water. The trendy detox diets suggest that “toxins” need to be flushed out via the kidneys (although many dietitians remain skeptical over the true value of detoxing). Nonetheless extra fluid whilst on a detox is a key principle to follow.

Water also helps you cool down and rehydrate after a workout or long walk, especially in hot weather.

Spread your intake out throughout the day. Don’t leave it until the end of the day and then drink a huge amount at one time. Drink a glass when you can - especially before a meal - and then sip in between. Don't let yourself get thirsty. If you feel thirsty, you've already started to become dehydrated.

When you diet, you need 8 to 10 glasses of fluid each day.  In your quest to look and feel the best you can, this is one of the simplest techniques to reaching your goal.
