Your child deserves a great start
Growing children need to replenish water throughout the day, being as active as they typically are, as it is vital for their healthy growth and development.
By encouraging good habits in your children at a young age, you are helping to ensure that they grow into healthy teenagers who understand the importance of being good to their bodies.
Many children don't like the taste of tap water and add cordial to cover the taste. Reports back to us have shown that when children experience the taste of BRITA filtered water, they enjoy it and as a result reduce their intake of cordials and fizzy drinks.
A recent survey commissioned by BRITA shows that almost two thirds (64%) of children aged 3-15 do not drink enough water - preferring fizzy drinks or cordials instead.
Children are drinking on average over two soft or fizzy drinks a day. More worrying is that over one in five drink three to six soft drinks per day and 6% have seven soft drinks or more. Water consumption is not high enough, with more than a third (36%) of children drinking only two glasses of water or less. Worse still, 4% of parents say their children do not drink any water at all.
Children should drink between six and eight glasses per day of a size appropriate for the age of the child and children of all ages should drink a bit more in hot weather and when running around.
Parents and teachers find that children are better able to concentrate, maintain good behaviour and feel good if they drink enough water - the effects can literally be life changing.
A child who does not drink enough is at risk of dehydration, showing symptoms such as headaches, constipation, lethargy and urinary tract infections. Even mild dehydration is thought to affect the ability to concentrate at school.
Childhood obesity is national epidemic and the habits kids form when they are young are crucial to maintaining a healthy weight.
Make BRITA Water their drink for life.
